Eduardo Chillida

En el límite

26.3. – 18.6.1995
And yet this sculptural gesture of cautiously approaching can be transferred to the gesture of approaching the emptiness of the large space of the synagogue, emptiness which is historically conditioned. The large Torah no longer contains Torah scripts. Knowledge about the Jewish past, the Jewish cult is no longer present, but must be recollected and re-acquired.

Chillida attempts to forge for man an intellectual and spiritual link to the environment, and to create locations where this can occur. He aspires to enable us to experience various qualities of space and make relative strengths perceivable. Chillida’s sculptures are the expression of an art who asks existential questions. And they endeavor in purely functional public spaces to once again create space and areas where we can learn to see how we are ourselves asking and seeking to find our own selves, thus becoming conscious of the yardstick we apply and our own place in the scheme of things.
